About Jenny Simmons
In 2004, Jenny Simmons graduated Summa Cum Laude from Portland State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. She has been working in the Social Security Disability field for the past 17 years and has been a disability representative since 2017. In 2006, she became a hearing clerk and court reporter for the SSA’s Office of Hearings Operations in Portland, Oregon. For the next 12 years, Jenny traveled all over the Pacific Northwest recording Social Security disability hearings and assisting the judges who held them. She started her own court reporting business in 2010 where she recruited and trained others to work under her government contract.
Jenny’s time working for the Office of Hearings Operations equated to 12 years of learning what it takes to be an affective and knowledgeable representative. She was able to observe thousands of disability hearings firsthand and spent countless hours talking with the judge’s. She discovered what the judge’s want to see from a representative, as well as how they came to their decisions. There are good representatives and bad ones and Jenny was able to see exactly what not to do when presenting one’s case. Other disability representatives and lawyers do not have this same experience and that is what gives Jenny a leg up in this industry.
For fun, Jenny likes to spend time with her partner Ryan and their two chihuahuas. Her hobbies include writing, photography, and traveling when time allows!
